A show of LOVE to a biker chick.

I love you all, my friends and family, more than you know. I sincerely apologize for not capturing that Miss Sturgis title for us. I truly thought this contest was something different, a breakthrough that would finally shine a light on authenticity. But it was just another modeling competition in the end. And there’s nothing wrong with that; just don’t bill an event as something it’s not just to attract more contestants. That’s just creepy.

As a final note, herein below I want to share with you the awesome comments that I had received on my Miss Sturgis contestant page. Many thanks to all of you who supported my entry. I so dearly wanted to win this title for YOU the real riders, the real enthusiasts of the lifestyle who have made Sturgis what it is and what’s to come!

In the precious words of Johnny Chop: "Stay Gold." Yes, I had to Stay Gold to my heart and soul and for the love of the true motorcycle lifestyle and relinquish my participation.

And, my dears, I leave you with this thought: "I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve." -- Jeremiah 17:10

I was awarded truth, in the end. http://downtheroadapeace.blogspot.com/2008/04/miss-sturgis.html - read more here. But read the comments below first....just amazing and beautiful. Real, friends....REAL DEAL.

Such a biker chick! The ultimate road warrior in a totally female package. I love you Sasha! - Comment by Bob Babin — January 23, 2008 @ 8:35 am (employee from Sturgis Bike Week)

I agree with you that a actual biker should be Miss Sturgis, not just a model. I hope you win! - Comment by Kristin — January 25, 2008 @ 12:20 pm (employee from Sturgis Bike Week?)

Miss Sturgis, The Chrome Cowgirl !I have never seen a better candidate for Miss Sturgis ! Seriously, folks! A real honest-to-God biker lady! A Sturgis Regular for 10 years and rides her own Big Twin to Sturgis! A Singer & Songwriter who can stand up on stage, look beautiful AND talk, too! Outrageous bike and clothes.Omigod, an Author of a motorcycle book,The Chrome Cowgirl’s Guide to the Motorcycle Life.Sasha, the Chrome Cowgirl ! Making appearances atSturgis and other Biker Rallies, New Dealership Openings, New HD Model Releases like CrossBones, appear at bike promo & training events for women & any event for men, a true representativeThe Motor Company might find that you are a great emissary. You have a great look in your photo, and you could wear some leather, too. Find a custom leather for 00Leather jacket and/or chaps in colors like your boots (I LOVE those boots)! You just gotta keep wearin’ ‘em. For the Swimsuit Competition be inventive like not a bikini, maybe color leather chaps & open leather micro-jacket, ride your own bike onto the stage. Hey, Several of the other contestants look hot but none of them hold a candle to you. Good Luck from Kahuna Bud, in Virginia Comment by Kahuna Bud — January 27, 2008 @ 12:58 am

Nice picture, Sasha. Tigerlily looks a little different from the last time I saw her, too. Hope you both have fun this year and take home the blue ribbon. Love you,-Bountyman Comment by Bountyman — February 4, 2008 @ 7:09 pm

Sasha,You are such an inspiration to me! Thanks for being such a great role model for what women bikers really are,bad-ass,butt-kick’n road warriors! Ride on my sister of the wind! MUCH LOVE! -warthog36 Comment by warthog36 — February 16, 2008 @ 11:10 pm

Hey, Wind Sister! Best of luck! I voted for ya! You deserve this title and more! I totally agree that the title should go to a Rider Woman. Nothing wrong with being a model or lookin’ pretty on the back, but hey - if you are going to represent the ultimate in motorcycle rallies, you should ride a motorcycle, and ride it in! Judges - I have a suggestion for the contest to make it representative of REAL biker women: Include a bike rodeo and wrenching competition. Let the ladies run what they brung. Lay out H-D’s “final exam” course from the H-D rider course. Each finalist begins by running down a basic service on her bike, including changing oil and spark plugs. Then she runs the course with her newly serviced bike. Best time for a clean service and run (with no leaks or badly gapped plugs!) wins. Love you, Lady! Sasha’s love for the motorcycle and the inherent spirtuality of the “ride” is not only motivational for women riders but us guys alike. Comment by Jeff C. — February 26, 2008 @ 8:28 pm

Sasha, A tip of the helmet to you milady. I am wishing you the best of luck in this contest. It it time that a “Real” lady wins. This is Sturgis. Biker country. We need a rider to represent us. She’s not just a piece of “arm candy” but a true jewel that rides and lives the lifestyle and deserves to named Miss Sturgis. Sweet Girl, congrats on making it this far! And of course, you should have. If the criteria is - being a real woman; as beautiful on the inside as outside; a person representing women at a motorcycle event that actually rides, well, you’ve got it hands down. You’re more than just a pretty face and my pick every time. Comment by Pepper Massey — March 12, 2008 @ 10:09 am

Sasha! How could they pick anyone BUT you for Miss Sturgis? Besides being quite the hottie, you ride to Sturgis, as well as a ton of other places, every year. See you in South Dakota! Comment by Chris Maida — March 12, 2008 @ 1:26 pm

I go to motorcycle events and see chicks pretending to be interested in motorcycles, vying for attention with their transplanted boobies and chihuahua-pitched giggles. I never vote for them. I voted for Sasha. Genuine. Comment by Paris "Mrs. Rat" — March 13, 2008 @ 8:11 am

Cool to the Core - Sasha you have the soul of Miss Sturgis. Always a good time and a great gal. Go Get Em’ Chrome Cowgirl. See You Down The Road. You Rock Comment by Tyler Fyre — March 13, 2008 @ 8:15 am

Sasha and I met in 2000 at the Womens Motorcycle Conference in Athens ,Ohio. She has been my road sister ever since. I would love to see Sturgis finally have a true “bikelady” represent Sturgis Bike Week. Sasha has been out there riding hard and writing books and magazine articles to promote women riding. And isn’t that what Sturgis is all about. The love of riding in the wind. Sasha has it all, beauty, compassion, brains and a voice to share her experience with thousands. If Sasha doesn’t represent Sturgis this year it will be their greatest loss. I love you my wind sister, Gypzy Comment by Gypzy — March 13, 2008 @ 10:37 am

It is about time we get a lady for the Miss Sturgis contest who is actually a “Miss” and actually knows how to ride her own! Isnt a “Miss” contest supposed to be “Miss” and NOT “MRS”??Sasha has the entire package here: Brains, beauty, rides her own and is loads of fun! Come on people lets vote for the best, MISS SASHA!!!! Comment by HDFEVER — March 13, 2008 @ 5:22 pm

Sasha, When I stopped you to give you a hug at the Ocean Center after the Women’s rideI could feel your warm and soulful spirit. I was concerned that you were headed out that day back to Nashville, the weather was pretty bad and we got caught in some nasty downpours and hail. looks like you made it home alright. Thanks for the inspiration and stay true to your course, as I said, have faith and all things will work out. You certainly deserve the title and I know you would bring honor to it because your heart and soul are where they need to be, filled with goodness. Sasha is Miss Sturgis already in my book! I’ve known Sasha for 2 years now and believe me, you will never find a more, hard riding, chrome loving windchild than this “pretty woman”! Sasha is all heart! She deserves this and more! Sasha’s spirituality and love of her “TigerLilly” motorcycle is not only inspirational for women riders but us “gents” as well. It’s about time that a real woman biker wins. As Miss Sturgis she will be a fantastic ambassador for this country’s finest bike rally. She rides, sings, and writes Motorcycles. Not to mention that this talented little gal is extremely attractive. It doesn’t get any better than her. I am wishing you the best of luck in this contest, Sasha. Much love your way, JB Comment by John Beymer — March 18, 2008 @ 8:32 am

Sasha, Since the day we met I thought you were just so sweet and honest. Not only are you beautiful on the outside but equally on the inside. Your love and devotion for motorcycles and the culture makes you the best candidate for Miss Sturgis. I know you will win and bring a new meaning to the contest!!Hugs,Elisa Comment by Elisa — March 18, 2008 @ 9:06 am

It’s about time the rest of the world sees that you’re ALL THAT. Just remember me when you’re a star, kay??? Love, BK Comment by Bobkat — March 18, 2008 @ 9:39 am

Sasha is Miss Sturgis!!!! She is a TRUE Bike Chick!!!! Comment by jodi — March 18, 2008 @ 9:46 am

I voted for Sasha and I hope she becomes Miss Sturgis. I’m bored with the gals with the fake everything. Sasha is the real deal… Beautiful, spirited, talented, lives for riding,a true friend and not fake anything. Comment by Hugh King — March 18, 2008 @ 11:04 am

Didn’t they pick you yet? What are they waiting for? The other girls are pretty too, but you’re pretty AND you’re one of us. How much rake is on that Sportster you ride all over the place? What better combo for Miss Sturgis? Comment by Chris Maida — March 18, 2008 @ 12:36 pm

All of us at http://www.coolbikerides.com/ wish you the best of luck! You have an awesome attitude and represent everything the lady biker should! Ian Comment by Ian — March 19, 2008 @ 5:38 pm

Go Sasha! You are the epitome of freedom and beauty! Tough enough to ride tens of thousands of miles, and still a musical flower child. Wish there was more than one of you, but then I wouldn’t have known who to vote for, would I! Comment by Zipper — March 19, 2008 @ 5:47 pm

Sasha Mullins is the sweetest, most loveable girl I know, and she simply HAS to be the best candidate for Miss Sturgis! I think no one can equal her love and passion for riding. She has no peer in what she has done for women riders: authored and published two books, starred in at least two Discovery Channel biker movies, and she is multi talented! Sasha regularly attends the Sturgis Rally, and she does not just walk in or motor in as the locals do, neither does she arrive as a passenger on a bike or trailer her ride as the “softies” do. She RIDES to the rally, driving her own bike — all the way from New York City a few times and currently from Nashville, TN. Comment by Buddy Ford — March 19, 2008 @ 8:20 pm

Sasha is one of the most dedicated riders I have ever come across in 50 years of riding. She is the “real deal” and a soft yet immensely strong person. She is fearless and intense. She is everything and more that Miss Sturgis should be. She is a natural winner and leader and will be a great example of all that is at the core of Sturgis Bike Week. You go get ‘em Sasha!! GM Comment by George — March 20, 2008 @ 1:14 pm

Sasha crossed my path at last years Rally. She is truly a free spirit on a journey of life that few others enjoy except on their annual pilgrimage to the Rally. And to her spirit I share this quote. “Only those who take leisurely what the peopleof the world are busy aboutcan be busy about what the people of the worldtake leisurely.”Chang Ch’ao Sasha Mullins is Miss Sturgis Comment by Dan the Acupuncture Man — March 21, 2008 @ 11:53 am

Sasha rides! That in itself should make her Miss Sturgis! She’s also someone that makes me think, where has she been all my life? The only problem now is that I’m old enough to be her Father! She’s got my vote. Paul Comment by Paul Kireyczyk — March 23, 2008 @ 8:41 am

Sasha Mullens is the comsumate chrom cowgirl. I’ve never met any one in my 18 years going to Sturgis or the other rallies that can compare to her love of the saddle. When I first saw Sasha it was on a TV documentary of a small group of women riding around the country. She was a natural on screen. Then when I met her in person I was very moved by her sincerity of her love of the motorcycle community. This I saw reflected in her music, her writing, her home, her friends, and in her supportive man.I feel that that Sasha should be crowned Miss Sturgis, because she would represent the honor with dignity, beauty, knowledge, humor and talent. A rare combination! Comment by Dian Marshall — March 24, 2008 @ 7:46 am

From one wind sister who knows what it takes to be a true rider, Sasha deserves to win this contest to prove that women on motorcycles are sexier and stronger than normal women. Shasha just isn’t a pretty face and a hot bod, but a wonderful free spirit on two wheels and encompasses everything Sturgis is all about: bikes, fun, babes, and a FAMILY of riders. If she isn’t chosen, I highly doubt the agenda of the judges. Comment by Brittany Morrow — March 25, 2008 @ 7:46 pm

If the roadrash queen has your back then you got my vote…You got this girl..The total package… Comment by Chad Thomas — March 25, 2008 @ 8:22 pm

go get em girl! I’m so tired of pulling up somewhere and people being like “You’re too pretty to be a biker chick”. Just because we’re strong and we like to ride on our own instead of behind a man (sometimes ) doesn’t mean we can’t be beautiful too. Comment by Ashley — March 25, 2008 @ 9:05 pm

Gotta love a biker chick… you an insperation to all female riders! You deserve to win!!!! Comment by Monika — March 25, 2008 @ 9:16 pm

Sasha you truly are the ideal candidate for Miss Sturgis 2008. You have accomplished so much and it should be a requirement that all contestants be able to operate and know their way around a motorcycle. Best wishes and we are rooting for you!!! Comment by Cristal — March 25, 2008 @ 10:55 pm

It should be required that a woman who is intering this contest should ride her own bike and not just one that sits and poises on it.. You go girl, from one biker chic to another… You got my vote!!!!!!! Comment by Paula — March 26, 2008 @ 4:20 am

Sasha,Nice surprise to hear from you today, which brings me here. I have reviewed the images and comments from the other contestants and I am sure that the content of your character, the sincerity of your actions, and the absoloute true belief you have in this life will no doubt shine through and make you the first in show! You are to be the Sturgis Ambassador, to represent women who ride through the entire year to follow. I have faith that you would be one who would make good work of the position and use it for the good of everyone. You are bringing a level of dignity to this contest representing women who love to ride. It seems to be part of your spirit. When I think of a Miss Sturgis the only image I get is Sasha. She’s got beauty, brains and she rides her own bike. I think she puts more miles on her bike in a single season than most riders put on in their entire lives GO SASHA! Comment by Alan — March 29, 2008 @ 10:24 am

I believe that when you come to Sturgis and the Black Hills you come for the best experience of Brotherhood and Sisterhood of bikers, the most beautiful riding of any rally in this great country………..What better person to represent that spirit than Sasha……..She embodies the spirit of a true biker in every way, and on top of that she is beautiful, look at that smile, at that glow…..Sturgis doesn’t need another pole dancer/model to represent the Rally they need a woman who represents and lives the spirit of Sturgis…………Sasha has for years, it would be perfect to have her represent all of the bikers when she rides into Sturgis on her own Bike, all the way from Nashville to be Miss Sturgis………Let the other contestants meet her and ride all the way in………Cheers! Sasha sould be Miss Sturgis because of her dedication to biking. I have known her for many years now can’t imagine anyone more qualified to represent the ever popular Sturgis Rally which I have attended for many years. Sasha not only has a radiant beauty and a warm sincere glow but a personality and a love for riding that I have rarely seen in my 40 plus years of riding motorcycles over this country. She would be a true representative of the biking community with the brains to be able to talk to people and represent Sturgis as it should be represented and not just a pretty face that knows nothing about the love of riding that we all enjoy together. Sasha has authored a book and has appeared on television shows over the years representing the biker community so she is very well known to many people and is not just looking for modeling opportunities as some of the other girls are. Sasha would be the very best pick of all of the candidates that you have for this year. Show everyone that Miss Sturis is a real biker this year. Comment by Tom Guest — April 2, 2008 @ 11:35 am

Sasha! On behalf of Sisters With A Throttle Motorcycle Club & the staff of Torque Vixens Magazine, we wish the BEST OF LUCK!!! You a TRUE lady biker and represent US WELL!! Hopefully we’ll get a Sister that actually TWIST the THROTTLE!!!! —Sisterly Love!! Comment by Sisters With A Throttle MC/Torque Vixens — April 3, 2008 @ 12:24 pm

Congratulations on making it to the finals! I’m glad to see that someone who is actually a part of the biker community is in the final running for Miss Sturgis. I met Sasha while camping out on the Iron Pony Ride back in 1999. The ride went from Milwaukee to Sturgis, Sasha originally road in from New York City. Sasha has been riding her custom sportster “TigerLily” to rallys throughout the country. She’s the author of two books pertaining to the motorcycle culture and lifestyle. I felt it an honor to vote for her in this contest. If anyone can represent the biking community as Miss Sturgis, Sasha is the gal!!! Comment by Skip — April 3, 2008 @ 4:39 pm

I have known Sasha for about 8 years, meeting her at Rally. Since that time, Sasha has been coming to my home in Lead, SD every year, bringing her spirit & love for the ride. Her busy schedule NEVER kept her from her true friends throughout the years. I am SO tired of seeing “Playboy T & A” shots of women who have NO idea what it means to represent Sturgis. Have they ridden, as Sasha has, from New York to Sturgis, weathering the rain, hail, no accommodations, sleeping on the side of the road? Sturgis began, & should ALWAYS be about the rides through Paha Sapa, hill climb, races & comraderie between us all & Sasha with her great attitude & love of the Black Hills is the ONLY contestant that should be considered. She RIDES Tiger Lily & Comment by Dena Sheets — April 13, 2008 @ 5:40 pm

Wow!If your into someone real. If your into a girl with a head on her shoulders. Who is true and down to earth. Someone who hasn’t lost thier sense of humor and who is working as hard as anyone to do and get where she wants in the world. Someone who’s beauty shines from the inside. Making her gorgeous both inside and out. Then Sasha is your girl. Pleanty of flakes out there. Sasah just doesnt happen to be one of them. I know I am glad, and feel priviaged to have met her. I feel like I have a new true and real friend. Awsome girl. Awsome person. Good luck in everything Sasha! xoxoMark Comment by Mark Nelson — April 15, 2008 @ 10:02 am

Sasha, I am utterly disapointed at who they picked. You should have won, representing the true beauty of riding and Sturgis, but they could have at least picked someone more “qualified”!! The Miss Sturgis does seem like a beautiful girl but this isn’t a Miss American Beauty Pagent!

All I can say is Huh!? What happened to real people representing the real world. Not photogenic?! Hmmmmm...
They certainly were not looking at you. Just my opinion, you ride, you look good, and you rock Sister. You have the package and they need to come into this century where women want to be represented by the total "package" too. You ride... that's what Sturgis is all about.
You are blessed at being a good sport.

I'm sorry you didn't win the title...You are Miss Sturgis to me! And GIRL...You looked awesome in your photos!

What does Sturgis mean to you? To me it embodies the definition of God's bold hand offering hope. It is a desert oasis where you can strip yourself of all you know, all you learn, and become one with divinity. It is about being yourself free and beautiful, naked and expansive. It is a spiritual vortex and a celebration deep in your bones about life, friendship, family, the absolute purity of riding a motorcycle- whatever model you ride. It is art. It is song. It is truth. South Dakota is a very magical place. The Black Hills represent the essence of spirituality and mankind as one. It is about laughter and childlike wonder. It is about being a pioneer and all that a pioneer goes through. It is about living in the moment because that's all you have...it is about love, peace, destiny...fortitude.

and to continue from my comment...if you want to be a part of the motorcycle lifestyle you need to live it, love it, respect it. If you represent a place as sacred as Sturgis, especially during the legendary motorcycle rally, you need to have experienced it. It is a position too dear to just be trophy material.

Hello... said...

that's pretty fucked up, girl.

i think this is an opportunity to do your own people's choice version, a la Slamdance in reaction to the exclusive clique nature of sundance.

i'm not kidding. most of these stings cause us to rely on our talents, anger, passion, and ability, and come up with something even BETTER.

and you could retaliate by having complex roles or winning categories. age, motherhood, single, etc.

i'm not kidding.

you published and toured a book. that's a bitch, girl.

refuse to RIDE bitch on their reindeer games. i'm for real. personify the life, chica girl.

i can't wait to see what you come up with. and with as many comments as you have, you'd better not waste that kind of lovin'. you know way better than that.

The headshot they took to determine if we were photogenic enough....golly, was nothing more than a police mug-type instant photo: up against the wall, snap the photo, okay you can go now. Surely my eyes were closed and my lips were twisted in mid-sentence, 'what'd ya say?' : )
